Know for its long sandy beaches, surfing spots, sunny climate and nightlife, the Gold Coast has a lot of fun to offer. Here are some family friendly tips from a local.
Your name – Brit
Nationality – Australian
Children’s ages – 4 years old
Location – Currently the Gold Coast, Queensland Australia
How long have you lived there? – One year, although we are about to hit the road again!
Websites for keeping up to date on what is happening in the area – We often check out ‘Haven Magazine’ for the latest happenings.
Hint 1 – We love to eat at BSKT in Nobby Beach. It is by the sea, has a little play area for the kids, situated so that the adults can easily see them, and they can wander back and forth to the tables. All of the food is very clean and healthy, and the sweet potato fries are second to none!
Hint 2 – The Pirate Park at Palm Beach Parklands is a favourite as it is attractive, by the water, and has a big Pirate Ship! (it also has a cafe with some healthier options than usual)
Hint 3 – On a free Sunday we drive to the Gold Coast Hinterland – we love Binna Burra and they have some short but beautiful rainforest walks perfect for kids. Springbrook is another great place and the drive there is stunning.
Hint 4 – One of the coolest free things on the Gold Coast is The Rockpools kids water playground at Broadwater Parklands in Southport. Absolutely gorgeous!
Hint 5 – A great stroller friendly walk is along Hedges Avenue between Nobby Beach and Broadbeach. It’s super flat, on the coast, and some very interesting houses to check out, as well as good cafes if needed. A dedicated walking section of the road, cars can only travel 30kph and lots of fit people to keep you inspired!
Destination Gold Coast is a great website, with a lot of information to help plan your visit or find out what’s on.
